  1. Start the Clock

There’s something about working against the clock that kicks through creative block and starts the ideas flowing. Set a stopwatch and challenge yourself to come up with as many ideas as possible in a limited amount of time. Don’t analyse or think too logically at this point, as that can come later. As the clock ticks, just let your creativity flow. As well as jotting down your thoughts in words, think visually and doodle, drawing out your suggestions. too.

  1. Walk and Talk

Another way to get around creative block, is to give yourself a new perspective on a situation by physically moving away from your desk. If you have a one-on-one meeting in the diary, you could turn it into a ‘walk-and-talk’ discussion instead. You might just be surprised at how easily thoughts flow when you’re away from the office in the fresh air, enjoying uninterrupted time away from your inbox and phone.

  1. Get the Creative Juices Flowing with Orange

Orange is the colour of the sacral chakra (located just below the navel) which is the centre of our creativity. Using this enlivening colour in areas of the home or office where you need to be creative can give you the extra confidence to express yourself well. Burn orange essential oil, treat yourself to a bunch of orange flowers or simply wear some orange clothing. By introducing a splash of orange, you might just get through that creative block and even experience a whole new zest for life!

  1. Calm with Carnelian

The carnelian is an orange to reddish-brown crystal which resonates with the sacral chakra and is believed to help awaken creativity. You may even discover a talent you didn’t know you had!

  1. Laugh Through Creative Block

It’s often said that laughter is the best medicine, and when it comes to creativity that’s certainly true. A good laugh reduces stress and gets those feel-good endorphins flowing. When we learn to loosen up a little and don’t take life too seriously, that’s often when exciting new ideas are triggered. If you’re stuck in a creative rut, phone a friend who always makes you laugh, watch a funny YouTube video or play an ice-breaker game at your next group meeting at work to inspire creative thinking.

  1. Let the Ideas Come to You

Do you find that some of your best ideas come to you when you’re not really thinking about them? When you’re in the shower, or just as you’re falling asleep? It’s as if when the mind is free from wandering thoughts, that’s when those wonderful light-bulb moments of clarity and inspiration pop into our heads. Some people find that a good way around creative block is by using meditation and mindfulness techniques to help quieten the mind and provide the calm space needed to approach creativity from a new perspective.
