Top Stress Busters

shutterstock_370126373Even if you’re not a student, life can feel increasingly busy at this time of year.

As the autumn weather sets in, kids go back to school and Christmas starts to loom, September can be a stressful month for a number of reasons.

If you’re struggling to cope with that dreaded September stress, read on as we bring you some quick and easy ways to beat it!

Take a time out

Even if it’s just for 10 minutes every day, giving yourself a time out can help reduce stress levels. Whether it’s reading a book, listening to some music or going for a walk – find whatever relaxes you and practise it every day.

Get moving

Regular exercise can have a really positive impact on your mental health. While it won’t make stress disappear, it will give you a focus and help to clear your mind.

Eat well

A healthy, balanced diet also has real benefits. Your stomach is home to 80% of your body’s serotonin, also known as the “happy molecule,” so it’s essential to keep it nourished. A diet full of sugary snacks is unlikely to do anything to reduce stress so make some healthy food swaps and reap the benefits!

Declutter

If you’re feeling particularly stressed this month, why not try having a clear out! It can be hard to relax when you have clutter everywhere.

Get a pet

If you’re looking for a more long-term solution to stress, a pet could be the perfect solution! Studies have shown that physical contact with a dog or cat reduces our blood pressure and brings about a sense of calm.

Colour in

Adult colouring books have become increasingly popular for their therapeutic benefits, so next time you’re feeling stressed – grab the crayons!

Have a bath

A hot bath will slow down an over-active mind. Add some relaxing candles and you have the ultimate calming atmosphere.

Yoga and meditation

Yoga is much more than just stretching – it can help us learn to relax, focus our mind and concentrate on breathing.

If you’re regularly experiencing high levels of stress, don’t let symptoms develop – do something about it now. Psychotherapy is an effective way to identify the causes of stress and talking to a professional may help you identify new ways to cope.
