Access the healing power of spring this May!

As soon as pain shows up in the body, the mind becomes preoccupied on how to get relief. If we can remove the cause of the pain or numb it with analgesics, all well and good. Some, however, face considerable pain, believing they can never escape it, and this seems to account for hundreds of thousands of people, victims of disease or injury, living each day in unavoidable and excruciating pain.

Does this mean that if we can’t escape the pain, then we must experience abject and meaningless suffering? Absolutely not! There is an alternative: by focusing our awareness on the pain and learning to observe it with precision, while at the same time opening up to it and dropping our resistance to it, we develop a skill where the pain causes much less suffering and we can actually break up the negative flow of energy.

If this sounds too good to be true, it may well be the case…..until you’ve mastered the technique. It takes time, effort and determination, all of which may seem like a lot of hard work when a pill could do the job much quicker!….but that’s where the fallacy lies – pills simply fool your body into thinking everything’s ok, only for you to find that you’re facing twice as much pain later on.

This new approach to working with pain presents us with two challenges: firstly, at a conceptual level, we must understand the pain process in a completely different way – we require a much-needed paradigm shift so that we can look at things in way that provides us with greater personal power and an enhanced clarity of thought. Secondly, at a more practical level, we need to develop the laser-beam focusing skills of concentration required in order to experience our pain in a totally new and empowering way.

Working with the pain, rather than against it, requires an embracing of the pain itself – to be comfortable with the discomfort, as it were. Mindfulness meditation is spoken of frequently these days, so much so that it has almost become the panacea for all ailments – the caveat is very clear here – it is NOT the cure to all things – in fact, some conditions could even be worsened if left in the hands of people who don’t know enough about it or should certainly know better!

Please, by all means, take responsibility for your own health and well-being, but do apply caution as you conduct your research, and explore all options fully before embarking on any new course of treatment. Mindfulness meditation has indeed been proven to deal with pain in an amazing way, but it may not be for everyone – check it out and then decide!

The aim is to increase your freedom of choice regarding what you do to manage your own pain, so that you’re not at the mercy of our doctors and drug companies, who may leave you feeling that they always know best. It is your body and only YOU know what is best for your body! When you start to tune in and listen to it, you’ll learn to trust it again and eventually you may reach the point where you can reduce or even eliminate the need for any medication. Right now, a life sentence of drugs cannot possibly be right, in any way, shape or form. Our bodies have been designed to heal themselves, so please, give them a chance to do this – they function as our best friends, doing all that we expect of them, and more, however badly we treat them. So, how about we listen to what they’re saying to us for a change, instead of simply drowning them out every time they make a sound? Pain is not a signal to be ignored – take heed and befriend it!
