December – the time for divine inspiration

This month’s consideration: Body and Spirit
In the holiday season’s whirl of parties, presents and feasting, don’t forget that this time is one in which we’re supposed to be divinely inspired. If you lack a spiritual connection, you’re likely to focus simply on satisfying your desires or, at the other extreme, perhaps denying them – remember Scrooge?!? To achieve a real sense of equanimity this month, balance the giving with an equal proportion of receiving, and those material needs with some proper food for the soul. Learn to tune in to your body and read the early warning signs whenever it starts to feel out of balance.
This month’s Affirmation
“I listen to my body and take care of its needs at every level. I cultivate a spiritual connection to honour the source of my blessings.”
This month’s Practice: Healing Old Wounds
Being at odds with others is harmful to our physical, as well as our emotional and spiritual health. Take the chance to heal old wounds and redress imbalances. Draw up a list of anyone you’re at odds with for any reason – maybe they hurt your feelings, maybe you hurt theirs…..whatever…… do your best to acknowledge your part in the drama and make amends where possible. Ask for their forgiveness and be willing to forgive everyone for everything, including yourself, whether you get to see them in person or not. The very act of forgiveness in your mind will start to heal the wounds by releasing some of the physical pain in your body. We’re all a long time dead, remember…
This month’s Project: Come all ye Faithful
Spiritual beliefs don’t come about unless they are called upon. Faith in anything requires cultivation. If religion is not your thing and you find that rituals trouble you, create your own form of worship, as traditional or as off-beat as you like. It’s about having faith in something that’s important – a faith or belief in anything you wish, be it Mickey Mouse, Mr. Spock, the almighty forces of the Universe or the Good Lord, Himself…..anything at all, as long as it is so big and powerful to you, it provides a feeling of complete safety, comfort and protection at all times, wherever you go, whatever you do. Appeal to your senses with food, music, candles, incense and decorations. Celebrate this invisible force or spirit with any form of prayer, be it meditation or a pageantry of your own choosing and devising. Invite friends, family and pets to join you and spread your own version of joy to all those you love. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just so long as you do, do it. Immerse yourself in the joy and divine spirit of the festive season and enjoy every moment of the time you spend together, because it really is true when they say, “all you need is love”…
