Unconditional LOVE

“Why is it that you love me?”

This may be a question we feel compelled to ask another when we need some sort of reassurance. To receive the answer, “I don’t know why, I just know that I do”, instead of making us feel amazing, unfortunately, can sometimes lead to more concern.

Strange really, as having no reason (other than love itself) for loving someone, shows that this love is truly unconditional. If you love someone because of their smile, their laugh, their cooking, their looks, how intelligent they are, etc. etc, then what happens if all those things suddenly disappear? Would we stop loving them?

Giving someone an indefinite list of reasons as to why we love them means that our love for them, ironically, must be conditional. Well, who’d have thought it?

When we can’t list reasons as to why we love someone, then we know the love we have for them is definitely unconditional. While, of course, there are things we love about our loved ones, in terms of qualities or traits, there are no actual reasons as to why we love them. If we did have reasons, it would mean that we would only love them if they were always displaying those traits.

Our love for another is not based on their mood or what they do – our love for them goes beyond all “reasons” and does not come from a place of reciprocity. They don’t love us because we love them, nor are they loving us for what we can do for them. This love is a true love, based on the pure abundance of love itself. When we let go of needing reasons to love another, there is no end to how much love we can discover.

So, to quote those immortal words: “Love me for a reason and let the reason be LOVE.”

Eid Mubarak, everyone – here’s to unconditional love, peace and harmony running the show, all day long!
